High quality photography is a cornerstone of our studies and illustrates the stories of the eagles we document. Here, Dana Bove is doing just that.

Monitoring Our Eagle Population

Looking for Nest Study Volunteers for Front Range Nesting Bald Eagle Studies (FRNBES)

Who Are We?

Front Range Nesting Bald Eagle Studies (FRNBES) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and conservation of nesting Bald Eagles, and eagle habitat in the northern Colorado Front Range region. We currently study 10 Bald Eagle nests in Boulder, western Weld, Broomfield and Adams Counties.  The major goals of our organization are research, conservation, and education, and we firmly believe that good scientific data is the cornerstone to successful advocacy and conservation work.

How Can You Help?

We are currently looking for volunteers for our field season that commences October 1, and continues until late February, or about 2 weeks after commencement of incubation. Some volunteers can also be involved in ongoing studies of our successful nests, all the way into the post-fledge season. Volunteers should have solid raptor identification skills, and be comfortable entering field data into EXCEL spreadsheets. Field time is typically 2 hours per week, however, some of our volunteers are active every other week. Spotting scopes are a plus and will be supplied if you don’t have one, but binoculars are required.

Gaining a Deeper Understanding

A number of our volunteers have been with us for several years, as they have found this to be a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the larger population of nesting and other Bald Eagles in our area. Whereas the study of a single nest is welcome, those wishing to further enrich their understanding of these wonderful birds will also have that opportunity.

High powered scopes are a requisite for both FRNBES staff and volunteers and enables us to take detailed notes for our studies.

Training Sessions

Our training sessions are typically in southwest Boulder and are generally conducted near the end of September. However, we also train new volunteers throughout the year, so if you are interested in volunteering after the formal September training, please be in touch and we will figure out how to make time for you.
